Vaezi among Gilan Province’s ICT Community Top Intellect and Aptitude of Iranian Youth, Basis for Self-Sufficiency in Domestic Content and Software Development

The Minister for Communications and Information Technologies, on a visit to Gilan Province with the “Caravan of Wisdom and hope”, met with the Province’s ICT elites and communities, in Rasht City’s Telecommunication Company.

The ICT’ Ministry’s PR department reports that during a meeting hosted by Gilan Province’s ICT Head Office, the Province of Gilan Representatives in the Islamic Parliament of Iran, provincial directors, and some of leaders and community members of the ICT sector presented their reports on their programs, projects, and operations.

In this meeting, Dr. Vaezi conveyed the President’s greetings to all the communities, leaders and academicians of the ICT sector in Gilan, and stated that: “One of the top programs and policies of the “Government of Wisdom and Hope” is turning things over to the private sector.”

He added: “The government neither wants to remain in charge of everything nor compete with the private sector in anyway; instead, our objective is to create an environment where the private sector is free to develop its activities.”

Referring to the program for “Chain-Like Mutual Support” of private sector companies, he elaborated that: “Larger and wealthier companies, in cooperation with the government, can hand over some of their activities to smaller and start-up companies, thus creating a support chain or network in a province or country, profitable to all three parties.”

The ICT Minister recalled some of his major programs on the onset of taking office, saying that: “I emphasized to my colleagues in the Parliament and the Ministry, that one of the major objectives of the Communication Ministry in this term of office, is a special focus on all those actively participating in the ICT arena and the private sector, with the aim of becoming independent in content production.”

He added: “The Content Production Movement was started based on the same policy, where the main objective is supporting ICT community members, leaders, researchers, science-based companies, and the private sector in their efforts to develop software, apps, and content, directly resulting in increased business and job creation in the sector, healthy and productive competition, and the availability of necessary facilities and technologies for the end-users.”

Vaezi also referred to the profitability of the ICT sector, saying that: “The variety of the available products and services and the inherent attractions in the ICT sector creates an environment where the private sector and the science-based companies can always remain active.”

The Minister of ICT highlighted the “Resistive Economy” plan suggested by His Excellency, the esteemed Supreme Leader, asserting that: “The core element in this scheme is to hand over these tasks to the people themselves.”

Expressing that Iran is a progressive country in software and software development, he underscored that: “The youth in general and university graduates and researchers of this land possess high extents of intellect and aptitude, and it is because of this very special characteristics of our nation’s younger generation that we don’t face any problem in software development.”

Vaezi pointed out the necessity of focusing on infrastructure development, saying that: “Unfortunately, not a great deal of investment and activity has taken place in the area of infrastructure during the past couple of years.”

He added: “Realization of the National Information Network and improvement of Internet services necessitates developing the infrastructure and increasing the bandwidth, in which we have made considerable progress, resulting in the doubling of the bandwidth.”

Later on, remarking on organizations with no bandwidth connection, he deemed them “unacceptable”, asserting that: “At the time being, Gilan’s bandwidth extends to 7 Gb, which can be increased to 32 Gb.”

The Minister of ICT listed the extensive programs in the infrastructure area, and stated: “The 4th operator is a large project ahead of us.”

In this meeting, the head of Gilan’s Science and Technology Park (GSTP), also said that: “In spite of all the progress made in many scientific areas, like Nanotechnology and nuclear affairs, there is still a lot to accomplish.”

Referring to the existing bandwidth and internet problems in the province, he included: “The science-based companies, because of the very nature of their job, are unhappy with the low speed of the internet.”

Citing some of the accomplishments of the IT area in Gilan Province, he concluded that: “Holding training courses and workshops for managers and governors, establishment of the first IT development center, creation of IT Strategic Committee, and formation of training committees for government staff, holding training courses for qualified personnel, and ongoing efforts to attract private investors to make the “Information Technology’s Comprehensive Document” fully operational, are just some of the undertakings in this area.”
