The first national seminar on Universal Service Obligation (USO) in the field of ICT will be held this August, with the participation of experts and programmers of this sector

The ICT’s Public Relation reports that Hossein Rezvani, the CRA Deputy in charge of guidance and follow-up of USO affairs in this organization, announced this event, saying: “The objective of this seminar is the introduction of different aspects of the USO project, interaction with the main shareholders of the project, engaging their participation, also introduction of completed or ongoing activities in the fields related to USO project; the seminar itself will be held with the cooperation of Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and the ICT Research Institute.

Mentioning that USO services are an obligation entrusted to the governments of the world by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Universal Post Union (UPU), so that every member of society will have access to basic telecommunication, IT and postal services, he included: “The Ministry of ICT, within the framework of USO’s workbook and in direction of improving the living criteria of people in rural and less developed regions, is compelled to guarantee access to ICT based services for all regions of the country, especially in villages and less accessible places where service provision is less economically justifiable.”

Rezvani described the joint cooperation of Communications Regulatory Authority and the ICT Research Institute, by saying: “The main focus of this cooperation consist of developing e-Services in various fields, such as education, culture, healthcare and safety, tourism, agriculture … all within the framework of national macro-development plans; it has been foreseen in the project that in addition to clarification of strategic plans for developing e-Services in rural and remote areas, the implementation of these programs must also be put on the agenda.”

The USO affairs coordinator also referred to other main activities in the upcoming seminar, such as holding an exhibition in parallel to the main event covering the capacities of the private sector and the requirements of the service market in rural and remote areas, choosing and announcing the best practical and operational thesis related to the seminar’s key topics, awarding the best projects implemented in rural and remote areas, all which are going to be part of the first national seminar on Universal Service Obligation (USO) in the field of communication and information technologies.

All interested parties, faculty members, university experts, research centers, operators, and related companies and organizations are invited to visit the seminar’s portal USO-Hamayesh.itrc.ac.ir to present their viewpoints, approaches, and services and products related to this field, and to read the seminar’s latest news and updates.
