Iran and Azerbaijan Sign Cooperation Agreement

At the conclusion of the 10th session of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, the parties signed a cooperation agreement, and Dr. Vaezi reported of the imminent trip of Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan to Tehran.

  The ICT Ministry’s Public Relation reports that in this meeting, Dr. Vaezi referred to the first visit of the Azeri President to Iran, saying that: “That trip actually opened a new chapter in our bilateral relations and I expect that the achievements of the 10th Commission can act as a starting point to help prepare for the imminent visit of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan to Tehran which will take place in near future.”

He emphasized on the expansion of bilateral relations in all aspects of economy, commerce, finance and banking which commenced from last year and in the 11th government, commenting on the determination of the government of I.R. of Iran for developing multilateral relations with neighbor countries, especially Azerbaijan, and said: “We made good agreements, and in the meeting with the Vice-President, emphasis was made on expanding relations and the fact that there are no limits set in this regard.”

Dr. Vaezi continued: “Shahin Mustafayev arrived in Tehran upon our invitation, with a high-ranking public and private sector delegation; and they enjoyed very positive meetings and negotiations with our ministers and the Vice-President during these two days.”

He referred to the negotiations in the oil and gas sector as a major cooperation opportunity for both nations, adding that: “We negotiated in regard to oil swap and agreed that Iran will use the gas reservoirs of Azerbaijan, and both parties will invest in the joint fields of the Caspian Sea.”

The Communication and Information Technology Minister highlighted the importance of signing an agreement regarding power-exchange, as a very significant document which has taken more than two years of work by both parties to come to a conclusion; all the technical and tariff preparations has been finalized and based on it, the Iranian national power grid is going to be connected to Azerbaijan’s national power grid.”

He referred to the expansion of Iran-Azerbaijan bilateral cooperation to tripartite cooperation with Russia and Georgia, saying that: “One of our agreements was in regard to development of customs cooperation and its new 24 hour services.”

He reported of the establishment of Agency relations between two countries in the next month, asserting that: “Banking relations between our two countries has found a positive pace and major steps have been taken to further develop this relationship.”

Dr. Vaezi mentioned the increasing number of travelers from both nations, underscored healthcare tourism as a serious new approach in tourism services, adding that: “We have had positive negotiations for facilitating visa issuance.”

At the conclusion, the Joint Economic Commission’s agreement document in regard to banking, customs, healthcare, environment protection, and tourism were signed by Iranian and Azeri ministers.
